Storage Overload

A bit of a geek-out post, but I have to mark the milestone of buying my first Terabyte hard drive (1000 Gb). We’re producing a load of video at the moment for Emma’s aged care project and I figured it’d be easiest to store it all on one drive, so picked the 1Tb drive up off eBay for a bit over $300. That works out at 33 cents a Gigabyte - a bit more than the 20 cents per Gb you’d pay for blank DVDs, but with the added bonus of super-fast connections and massive file storage.

But, to put this occasion in perspective, way back in 1995 I bought a 1 Gigabyte (1000 Megabytes) drive for $1000, so unless my maths is wrong, the new drive is a staggering 4000 times cheaper if you take inflation into account. Insane!

Studio Interior Fit Out

Mike & Hazel Ito are moving back to Hawaii and wanted to give their beautiful collection of furniture a home before leaving, an offer we gratefully took up. So now the studio looks more like a slick New York loft than the stinky store room in the forest it recently was. All I need to do now is work out how to get clients to come for meetings here…

Cockatoo Island

Emma and I are having a city holiday this week after Dane was kidnapped by his grandparents. We decided to check out the Biennale of Sydney art show on Cockatoo Island, and caught the ferry over from Manly to dodge the throngs of Catholics in town to hang out with Benny the Pope. The art itself was generally self indulgent crap, but I think the main problem was it all suffered from being overshadowed by the incredible venue. We ended up zipping through most exhibits to check out the amazing old building and workshops, and you literally just needed to point the camera in any direction to get some great shots…

Mac Screen Sharing Infinite Loop

I found out the hard way what happens if you set two macs running screen sharing at the same time the other night. You get this bizarre “hall of mirrors” style infinite loop in which the screen is looking at itself, and itself, and itself… into infinity. The processor gets so overloaded you can’t even quit out of it, so I think I needed to do a forced quit or shutdown to get rid of it.

Summer Heights High fan video

You know you’ve hit the big time when fans start doing their own dance routines to your song. Summer Heights High and the corruption of Australia’s youth…
