I think this pic is from the 2003 fires that nuked Canberra and the Snowy Mountains, but I saw another one just like it the other day of the latest round of fires in Victoria & Tasmania. Just a matter of time until we get our own in the backyard (i.e. the tens of thousands of hectares of state forest and national park just over the hill)…

Posting these pics a bit late after the iMac crashed in the middle of a firmware update with all of these shots on there. We finally did the road trip I’d wanted to do for years from Jindabyne, down the Barry Way to Lakes Entrance and on to Melbourne. We certainly weren’t disappointed by freak weather and a multitude of changing landscapes - from snow (in November!) in Jindabyne, to a heatwave and bushfires on the way home via Wodonga and up the back of the Snowy mountains via Khancoban (where they actually look like real mountains!). Some nice pics from along the way…

If you ever want to freak yourself out - get a 20 tonne D9 Bulldozer and send it into a patch of virgin forest (OK- not exactly virgin, just old regrowth. Our entire property was logged heavily earlier in the century) - these things churn bush for breakfast and it’s bloody daunting to watch. We finally bit the bullet and got one in to clear out all of our old fire trails, put in a couple of dams and open up the ocean views we never knew we had. The end result should be amazing. Brmm Brmm.
