The First Post

Literally and figuratively in many senses… Since we’ve embarked upon the insanity of building our own house in Termeil people keep asking to see the progress, so setting up a blog to document it seemed like a good idea to document it.

First post and beam for the new cabin.

So here it is - the first blog post and the first house posts. At least you don’t get blisters writing blogs.

House in Progress

A few photos at the top from the day the Big Digger came to Dane’s new house! The trench leads to an old watertank as the septic, with a huge absorbtion 25m trench below it to evaporate all the waste water. Works exactly like a $7000 eco septic system, but cost about $6900 less. Photos at the bottom show the front extension poles in place and the frame for the carport. All the wood is green hardwood from the local mill, so it’s a bit wobbly - but again, cheap and easy to work with. All the posts are turpentine trees cut straight from the forest, stripped of bark and plonked in the ground by the back hoe (after an attempt at doing it manually).
